Director, Compensation, Classification and Talent Acquisition – Ames, IA

Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, is a R1 University with a small town feel.  Known worldwide for excellence in science and technology, discovery, and innovation, our client also boasts a dedicated Human Resources Team that is eager to welcome a Director in University Human Resources who will be responsible for leading Compensation and Classification with oversight of Talent Acquisition.  The Director will develop the ongoing practices that will power the University’s compensation and recruitment philosophies and programs to attract, motivate and retain staff at Iowa State University.  The newcomer will maintain an equitable classification and market-based salary structure to include standards for starting salaries, pay on promotion, and other salary adjustments; and administer annual salary merit increases.  This role will be hands-on in solving problems and addressing policies and practices to develop and implement improvements for the benefit of administrators, hiring managers, and employees while addressing the ever changing market needs and talent issues.

The ideal candidate will be a leader with a talent development mindset that invests in developing their own team as well as contributing across the broader University Human Resources Team to enhance understanding; A compensation subject matter expert eager to build upon our compensation strategy and further develop that roadmap; A thought leader with the ability to maneuver through complex policy, process and dynamics.  This role requires a strong collaborator with the ability to work optimally in an organization where people can apply perspective in common goals.  The position will work in partnership with employee governance groups, University leadership, the Iowa Board of Regents Office, Operations and Finance, University Counsel, Provost’s Office and UHR personnel.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree; Experience overseeing and implementing all aspects of new classification and/or compensation programs; Experience which demonstrates technical competency with compensation plan structure and design; Experience in developing employee communications; Experience with large scale project management; Experience with Workday.
